Many of my friends post casual posts about cool things that happened or that they found over the week. I don't usually do that, because I assume if you want to know cool things that happened to me or that I found, you can just talk to me.

But I'm going to do it this week. Muahaha. [Read: I'm about to ramble about nothing at you.]

I'm not going to lie to you, I was pretty sad on Saturday and Sunday morning. Missing people, mainly. Having friends that live a long ways away can be incredibly hard on a person emotionally. And I was sorely feeling their absence this weekend.

But then I went to church. :) And that made everything so much better. While I was sitting there, feeling sad because I missed many of my friends, the thought came to me, I know you wish you were somewhere else right now, but you're where you are for a reason. You were placed here; you have a purpose here. (And yes, I regularly speak to myself in the third person.) That was a total paradigm shift for me. I had known it before, but I had been ignoring it, because I was too busy being sad and wishing for something I couldn't have. Partly as a result of this experience, my goal for this week is to be happy, even if things aren't ideal. I'm gonna bloom where I'm planted. :)

After church, I took my scriptures and journal into the spare room and had some solo time. For real. It was amazing. I love solo time. It wouldn't be a bad idea for me to do solo time every Sunday from now until I leave home. It's a great opportunity for helping me center myself and reconnect with myself and with God.

Today, I am happy. And I'm listening to this song, because it's pretty much the most amazing song in the universe:

I also started work on my reading list, which is enormously long. I finished two books from Ranger's Apprentice last week (and I have to go out to the library to get the other ones...lamesauce); I also started Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The World is Flat, and The Coming Aristocracy. (I'm in the middle of a million other books, but we won't talk about that...:P) So far, Hitchhiker's Guide has been a fabulous conglomeration of randomness, and The World is Flat and The Coming Aristocracy have been amazing.

Speaking of books, I rearranged my bookshelf for the second or third time within the last couple weeks this morning. I realized that I was growing up, because most of my more recent favorite books aren't the ones with the bright bindings. They have dark bindings, like adult books. :P Also, with the rearranging of my bookshelf, I put in a place to be a home for my aforementioned reading list.

Other randomness includes the fact that I heard a British person imitating an American accent for the first time this week! I don't know about you, but I thought that was hilarious. XD "Squrrl?" (Maybe the best part of this video is the people laughing at him in the background. I didn't know I sounded that funny. ;)

Also, my dear father bought me a green skillet. :D

Besides that, I would just like to say that for some strange reason, making crazy plans that will never come to pass with my friends makes me happy. :) When I finish my reading list, I'll be going to California on my llama to visit the libraries there. On my way back home, I'm going dancing with a friend in Kentucky... Fun times. (;

Have an awesome week, everyone! :D

Wanderers in a Strange Land

"If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world." ~C.S. Lewis   Recently, it hit me in a totally new way, and has continued to do so, that we as human beings really are other-worldly creatures. We are not made for this world. We are wanderers in a strange land, poor wayfaring strangers here. We're equipped for this world, but it's not our natural habitat. What makes me think this? There are many things that have brought me to this conclusion. Let me list a few. Desires which nothing in this world can satisfy. There are so many of these, are there not? We hate goodbyes, whether that goodbye is temporary or long-term; we want to be with our friends and loved ones forever. We also want friendships that go so much deeper than is humanly possible. I don't know if I can describe this desire, but hopefully you've felt it and you know what I'm talking about. We want to...

This is for You

My dear friend, I'm about to tell you something important, something true. Something I know from the bottom of my heart. it is not a painful truth, it's a happy, awesome one. It will make your life better when you know it, too.  But you are not going to believe me. You have self-conditioned to disbelieve what it is I am going to tell you. It's not that it would be painful to accept. It would, in fact, be wonderful. You don't accept it because you can't see it. But faith is believing in things we can't see. So I am asking you to suspend your disbelief for a minute and be willing to believe what I am about to tell you, because I KNOW it's true. And here it is. You... are beautiful. I'm serious. You have no idea. Girl, you're amazing! I know you can't see it in yourself, but even the most drop-dead, unbelievably beautiful people can't see it in themselves. And I'm telling you, you are so beautiful! Don't you dare disbelieve me! ;)...

The Path

I feel like one of those characters at the end of an epic movie who finishes their quest in the exact same place as it started. The place looks the same, and so do other people, but they know they will never be the same. They cannot be.  The girl stands, looking up at the place where it all began, knowing she is not the same. She takes a deep breath. Runs her fingers through her hair. Sighs. But instead of end credits rolling, she turns around and realizes there's a path before her feet. It's foggy and twisty, but it's a path . She doesn't know where it goes. She takes one last look over her shoulder at all that she can see of her previous adventure. Then she turns and, without looking back, follows the path. She has no choice; she can't go back the way she came. So she goes forward, into the fog. She knows that somewhere along this path, someday, she will come to a place... and look up at it... and go inside... only to come out a different person. And she'll ...
