This is my last week

These past few days I have been thinking about the life I have lived up until this point. I am SO indescribably grateful for everything I've been allowed to live. I've learned a lot and a lot about a lot of different things. I've experienced some really cool things. I've loved deeply. I've honed some skills. I have some regrets, but I'm largely happy with the narrative that is my life. And I have been so very blessed.

Today is Wednesday. My last Wednesday of.................. what? Is there a name for this remarkable tale of which I have been the flawed but striving heroine? I'm not sure.
Next Wednesday I'll begin something new. It's not something that's about me. Just about everything I've done up until this point has been, to one degree or another, about me. Not necessarily in a selfish way; after all, we've all got to make our own way. If we don't, we'll die. So essentially everything I have done up until this point has been for me. And while it's true that this will be good for me, too, that's more of a side benefit of what's actually about to happen.
In essence, I'm laying down on the altar. I'm putting
eighteen months of my life
all my earthly money
my talents and skills
my mind
my individuality
many of the things I use to characterize me as "myself"
almost everything that I like to do
my comfort zone
my future
my life
on the table. All for Him. Holding nothing back. That's the only way--to throw myself at the task before me, to jump in with both feet. Maybe there is another way, but I'm a little dramatic and in my line of sight, it's give all or give nothing in this case.

I'm happy to give it all.
Why?
Because it's right.
This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ--the true Gospel with authority and guidance and continuing revelation from the Lord. The Gospel with the power to change lives and hearts and everything there is. The Gospel that teaches repentance as a joyful process of change, and faith as strength, and covenants (or "rules") as safety. I have never been happier than when I am actively pursuing the goal of being a better better covenant-keeper, closer to my Savior, repenting daily, trying to be as good as I can. It may sound cliche to you, but to me it's all that really matters.
I have learned that everything in my life changes. Locations change, plans change, appearances change, preferences change; even my relationships, which I thought and often hoped would never change. Everything changes. But there is one thing that has never changed, in all my crazy shifting history of humanity and foolishness and courage.
The love of my Savior, and His teachings. It is always there, more constant than light from the stars or the sun, and warmer too. He always helps me when I ask Him. Even when I don't ask Him. He always does what is best for me and He always is aware of me.
I never could paint Him well in words.

Eighteen months is a year and a half I am giving to Jesus Christ uncomplaining; He has given me the rest of my years.

But........
I won't pretend I'm not afraid...

Wanderers in a Strange Land

"If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world." ~C.S. Lewis   Recently, it hit me in a totally new way, and has continued to do so, that we as human beings really are other-worldly creatures. We are not made for this world. We are wanderers in a strange land, poor wayfaring strangers here. We're equipped for this world, but it's not our natural habitat. What makes me think this? There are many things that have brought me to this conclusion. Let me list a few. Desires which nothing in this world can satisfy. There are so many of these, are there not? We hate goodbyes, whether that goodbye is temporary or long-term; we want to be with our friends and loved ones forever. We also want friendships that go so much deeper than is humanly possible. I don't know if I can describe this desire, but hopefully you've felt it and you know what I'm talking about. We want to...

This is for You

My dear friend, I'm about to tell you something important, something true. Something I know from the bottom of my heart. it is not a painful truth, it's a happy, awesome one. It will make your life better when you know it, too.  But you are not going to believe me. You have self-conditioned to disbelieve what it is I am going to tell you. It's not that it would be painful to accept. It would, in fact, be wonderful. You don't accept it because you can't see it. But faith is believing in things we can't see. So I am asking you to suspend your disbelief for a minute and be willing to believe what I am about to tell you, because I KNOW it's true. And here it is. You... are beautiful. I'm serious. You have no idea. Girl, you're amazing! I know you can't see it in yourself, but even the most drop-dead, unbelievably beautiful people can't see it in themselves. And I'm telling you, you are so beautiful! Don't you dare disbelieve me! ;)...

The Path

I feel like one of those characters at the end of an epic movie who finishes their quest in the exact same place as it started. The place looks the same, and so do other people, but they know they will never be the same. They cannot be.  The girl stands, looking up at the place where it all began, knowing she is not the same. She takes a deep breath. Runs her fingers through her hair. Sighs. But instead of end credits rolling, she turns around and realizes there's a path before her feet. It's foggy and twisty, but it's a path . She doesn't know where it goes. She takes one last look over her shoulder at all that she can see of her previous adventure. Then she turns and, without looking back, follows the path. She has no choice; she can't go back the way she came. So she goes forward, into the fog. She knows that somewhere along this path, someday, she will come to a place... and look up at it... and go inside... only to come out a different person. And she'll ...
